Welcome to The MacsX
- This week we're channeling the Print vibe that was evident on so many catwalks for Spring/Summer.
There are so many options to compliment and contrast the prints that are out there This Week's Collection shows some great options available at our boutique - with more in the Stock Room. Up for review this week is 'Threads' by Sophia Bennett - it may be a children's book but it holds so many messages and it is very 'fashionista'. As always, we have some authentic thoughts to finish off the page.
Prints - the way ahead and beyond
Carey Mulligan showed how subtle prints work in a big way at the BAFTA's rejuvenating the Vionnet label in her gorgeous gown. We have some amazing pieces in our collection this week. One of my personal favourites is the Planet dress. When I found this I was immediately reminded of the current Aquascatum Ad Campaign - can you see the similarity?
Have a look in our boutique to see what else we've put in the collection for this week - enjoy.

Threads by Sophia Bennett
Threads is listed as a children's book and won the Times Childrens's Fiction Competition 2009. For anyone who has a passion for fashion this is a great read. It gives an insight into the workings of the fashion world from a more innocent perspective. A perpective that is so in line with our Authentic grounding.
Threads tells the story of 3 friends who come together in helpping a young girl, Crow, who has a wonderful gift for designing and creating magnificent fashion. It is a bit of a rags to riches fairytale, but it has a rawness due to Crow's story, she is living in London with an aunt due to fleeing her home and the fear of becoming one of the 'Invisible Children'.
This book shows the glitz and glamourof the movie and fashion world, some of the absurdity and most importantly, for me, the philanthropy of the industry. It recommends websites to look at and help that can be given.
For a first book Sophia Bennett has brought magic to the pages and I am already looking forward to seeing what she comes up with for the 'Second Collection' this summer.
Authentic Thoughts
'Threads' made me rethink some of my views with regard to education and opened a whole new forum. I was of the belief that children should be allowed to be children, to play and have fun and not to have to think about what to do when they grow up. My thoughts on fun have not changed I believe that laughter is a vital part of childhood, however there are massive advantages to deciding what you want to be when you are a child.
When you decide what you want to be when you're younger there is a greater authenticity to that choice. You are making that choice ideally with a passion and from your gut rather than from a pros and cons perspective or a 'should' or 'shouldn't' point of view. Perhaps children should be encouraged to embark on that path as early as possible in order for them to be true to themselves in later life.
Carey Mulligan done it and look how it turned out for her. Not only can she choose good prints but she is doing what she loves every day.
I am now doing what I love, most of the time, and living my life authentically. And you know when I think back to when my love for creativity, writing and fashion comes from it takes me back to my childhood. I know that everything I want and need comes to me in the perfect way but my god it's taken an age for me to learn to trust my gut.
My son's school had a career day last week - all of the kids had to come as what they wanted to be when they grew up - kids from 5 to 11. It was quite enlightening to see pilots, sports coaches and even cowboys leave the playground - I wonder just how many of those kids will stick with what they chose - not much call for cowboys around here - but who knows he might be an actor? Solid foundations is definitely the way to go.
