Welcome to The MacsX
- we are starting off the new Spring/Summer Season with our new look zine.
We'll be looking at Authentic Styling, What's New this season and reviewing 'The September Issue' - and that's just this week - take a look in our Studio to see what's coming up in future weeks.
Authenticity is the Common Thread
Authentic styling works on so many levels. We've just come to the end of London Fashion Week and as much as we could be doing with some of those Autumn/Winter clothes right now(I can still see snow on the hills) I will fight on to believe that my Spring/Summer wardrobe can come out of hiding. I really need to feel those sunshine vibes, it's been a long winter.
So I've spent some time finding my own Authentic Style. For me, it's not about the latest, coolest trend. It's about style - cool, subtle style with a little edge. And as Yves Saint Laurent has always championed 'Style is timeless.' And that's what The MacsX and me are all about - Authentic Style. When you find your Authentic Style everything else just seems to fall into place. My Authentic Wardrobe at the minute consists of 2 pairs of utility style trousers and a few tops, so it still needs 'a little' work. I feel good in the fact that as much as I know what I don't want I now know what I do want. And I am enjoying my search for this treasure.
Why not go on a treasure hunt of your own - think back and imagine yourself in an outfit that made you feel super stylish and alive, where you knew everything was just right. Can you feel that inner smile? Now what was that outfit and what have you got in your wardrobe that can help you get that feeling again? When you find your Authenticity you find you and that's a good place to be.

So, what's new for Spring/Summer 2010
So much and so little, as much as there seem to be so many different trends - up to 11 in one review. I believe that the key element is the recognition that we are all looking for clothes that we can wear all the time and that reflect our personality. The S/S catwalks went from military to feminine frills to underwear as outerwear with a myriad of styles in between. We are launching our S/S stock with one of our capsule collections - a 'Classy Capsule with Edge' - in size 18. We believe that this reflects the mixture of current styles, making them wearable and timeless. Given our Authentic Styling you can see this array reflected in both our boutique and stock room pieces.
The September Issue - A Review
'If you like fashion you'll love this' says COSMO. I'm not sure that's the way to sell this one. I'm not saying I didn't enjoy this because I did. So much so that I have already watched it again and will watch it again and again. And I do love fashion.
It's like a fly on the wall look at how American Vogue is put together. It's billed as an insight to the way Anna Wintour works, really you learn more about how a magazine is put together from the perspective of Claire Coddington, Creative Director.
You see how fashion shoots are created and how the decisions are made as in what to use and what to let go, how egos are massaged and how the product, Vogue, is put together. We also see just how influential Vogue Magazine and the people behind it are, the true power of the press, in a good way.
What I found most unique was how Anna Wintour was 'humanised' and was so not 'Miranda Priestley'. She is a woman who is successful in the field of fashion journalism, that she has always had a passion for. Yet, there is a vulnerability in comparing her career to her father's or brother's(both main stream journalists) she seems to be embarrassed by her success describing fashion as frivilous. Perhaps that's the downside to doing something that you are passionate about and love - it somehow doesn't really seem like work.
Anna Wintour has worked damn hard to get to where she is (where she always wanted to be), she's put in the hours and has an authentic talent in knowing what makes fashion magazines work. She should be proud, loud and proud - the girl done good. The September Issue really does show that in the most subtle way.
It's a keeper and an education all in one. It's just not so easy to find this DVD when it's kept in the Documentary section at HMV.
